Who am I & what the heck am I doing?

People were sacred for me, but I knew it would all work out… eventually! Take a little look at who I am and the story behind my new local business.

Is my business viable? Am I happier now? Can I survive financially?

I’m Olivia, the creator of your local healthy market stall: Honey & Sunshine!

After recently moving back home to Torbay I started my own business selling homemade granola (thanks to my grandma for the recipe) and drinks like iced matcha lattes. I have been trading for about a month now & the reception has been overwhelmingly positive – thank you, thank you, thank you!

Why quit a stable job in pursuit of the unknown?

People thought I was crazy – I was in one of the most secure & financially stable jobs the UK has to offer. It had great promotion opportunities too, with my next

But I was so unhappy. I spent years thinking it’d get better & I’d settle in eventually, then spent months contemplating quitting. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that LIFE IS TOO SHOT TO HATE WAKING UP!

So, I quit my job back in March 2026 with no plan.

Thankfully the few years I spent in my previous career enabled me to buy a property which gave me some security when leaving (I’m not sure I could have left without a place of my to live in). However, I could only survive 1-2 months with what I had in my savings account so I knew I had to come up with something…

How Honey & Sunshine was born:

Upon returning to the bay after years away I found myself so disappointed with the lack of healthy food options in town.

Was it finally time? I have dreamed of opening my own healthy venue with a focus on whole foods, movement, and positivity for years. Although that’s not quite viable for me at this moment in time, I can certainly start making steps towards it!!!

No healthy grab’n’go options in Torquay? Fine, I’ll make it myself!

And so, my little market stall was born. I have a pitch at the Torquay Street Market in the town’s high street every Wednesday – Saturday. This is just down the road from my house so I can wheel all my things down in the wagon each morning & back up the hill each afternoon ๐Ÿ™‚ I am still experimenting with opening times (I tried 7am for a week & didn’t end up making any sales for the first few hours!) and how best to advertise.

I’m really happy with my setup at the moment and I’m working behind the scenes all of the time to make improvements.

If there has one thing that this process has taught me it’s that if you want to do something JUST START and get better as you go.

How I feel about the future…

It is safe to say I am much happier now.

Sure, it’s hard work and takes up a great deal of my personal time, but I am so grateful for my life exactly as it is right now.

I set my own hours, work outside, chat to customers all day, (eat the leftovers) and bring something I am passionate about to my local community!

I’m not sure what the future holds for me or my business but I know this is just the beginning of my new, successful, exciting chapter!

How grateful I am to be tired in the pursuit of my own making!
